Near-side and off-side of a car - which way round?

Nearside, offside - which way round?

A very common question when trying to source a part for a car, e.g. when trying to find an oxygen sensor for an engine with sensors on either side.

An easy way to remember is to think of the car being parked at the side of a road.

  • The side nearest the kerb is the Near side (N/S).
  • The side away from the kerb is the Off side (O/S).

So the Near-side of the car is the Passenger's side and the Off-side is the Driver's side.
