Product details

Many FIAT group vehicles from the 2018 model year onwards (sold from mid-2017) are fitted with a Security Gateway Module (SGW/SGM).
This sits between the diagnostic socket and the rest of the diagnostic system, and prevents everything except read-only access to the car, unless the tool can supply a session-specific security code from FIAT's servers.

Low-cost aftermarket tools such as MultiECUScan and FiCOM do not have access to those servers, and so can only access read-only data on vehicles fitted with an SGW.

That is where this Bypass Adaptor cable comes in.
You simply unplug the 2 wiring harness connectors (1 x 12-pin, 1 x 8-pin) from the SGW, and connect this adaptor to them, in place of the gateway. The adaptor the gives you a standard 16-pin diagnostic socket with direct access to the vehicle's CAN buses.

What vehicles do I need this for?

The following models have all been seen to be fitted with an SGW.
This list is not exhaustive though; other models may also be affected:
  • Alfa Romeo Giulia (2017-on)
  • Alfa Romeo Stelvio (2017-on)
  • Dodge RAM (2018-on)
  • FIAT 500L (2017-on)
  • FIAT 500X (2017-on)
  • FIAT Doblo (2017-on)
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee (2018-on)
  • Jeep Renegade (2017-on)
Any new / updated / face-lifted FCA model from 2018 onwards is likely to have an SGW fitted.

Where is the SGW module?

The location of the SGW varies between models, but it is usually behind the car's dashboard, accessible via the driver's or front passenger's footwell.

What about the car's warranty?

Use of this adaptor requires you to temporarily 'modify' the car, which may technically invalidate the car's warranty.
As you are only disconnecting and reconnecting multiplugs on the car, the 'modification' should be entirely reversible, undetectable and safe.
However, as with any modification, you use this adaptor at your own risk.
